EAR SURGERY, EAR LOBE REDUCTION SURGERY (OTOPLASTY)
Octoplasty is undertaken people who feel uncomfortable or embarrassed by the appearance of their ears. The operation is pins the protrude ear to closer to the head or reduce the size of large ear or reshapes them.
Prior to surgery Doctor Pat will consult with prospective patients, to determine expectations and to explain the procedure, including possible after-effects. This will also help the Doctor assess the patients suitability for Ear Surgery, and advice on likely results.
The procedure is carried out under local anesthetic with or with out sedation (sleep) depend on the pateint prefer.
The Doctor makes a small incision at the back of the ear and sculpts the exposed cartilage. Sometimes it is necessary to remove some piece of cartilage to ensure a natural looking ear. The ears are then appropriately reshaped and pinned to their new position.
Poorly shaped or over-large ear lobes can be reshaped or reduced in size with a small incision and reforming of the lobe.
Although patients can return to their place of residence following surgery, they will need to return to the clinic next day for wound cleansing and at 7- 10 days for removal of the sutures.
Following surgery the bandages may be apply to minimize bleeding and prevent accidental trauma. This bandage can apply by the patient off and on as prefer.
It is recommended that patients take things easy, and avoid heavy contact in the ear area for the first three weeks after surgery.
