CHEEK REDUCTION SURGERY (BUCCAL FAT REMOVAL)
Buccal fat pads are located in the lower cheek area, and a person may develop “chubby” cheeks, either due to overweight or through a genetic disposition.
Cheek reduction surgery removes some, or all, of these fatty pads, which will slim the appearance of the cheeks and can enhance self-confidence.
Prior to surgery Doctor Pat will consult with prospective patients, to determine expectations and to explain the procedure, including possible after-effects. This will also help the Doctor assess the patients’ suitability for Cheek Reduction Surgery, and advice on likely results.
The procedure is carried out under local anesthetic, meaning that the patient is awake, though drowsy, throughout, but insensitive to pain. Doctor Pat creates a small incision, 2-3 cm in length, between the cheek and gums which exposes the fibers of the main cheek muscle. Pressure applied externally below the cheek bone then causes the buccal fat to protrude through the incision. The Doctor will remove the desired amount, and close the incisions.
Following the treatment patients can return to their place of residence. Mild pain and discomfort may be experienced post-operation, for which prescription pain medication can be used. Some degree of swelling and possible bruising can be expected, but this is only temporary. It is also possible that a degree of numbness and loss of sensation around the incision lines will continue for a few weeks
It is recommended that patients take things easy for the first three weeks after surgery.
